ADULT VACCINATIONS

The need for vaccination is not limited to children.  Adults may need to be vaccinated for protection against a variety of infectious diseases for a variety of reasons.  These include:

  • Booster doses of a previous vaccination because the  protection provided decreases over time, for example: polio and tetanus vaccines

  • The need for protection against a new exposure due to employment, recreational activities or travel; hepatitis, typhoid and yellow fever vaccines

  • Greater susceptibility to an infection because of weakening of the immune system due to aging, disease, or a needed medication;  e.g. pneumonia and shingles vaccine.

  • The need to protect yourself and others from highly communicable diseases and even cancer; for example: HPV, whooping cough, meningitis, and flu vaccines.

Be a good citizen and protect your neighbors, coworkers, yourself and the people you care about. Vaccines are incredibly safe and serious side effects are extremely rare.  Minor pain at the injection site and mild flu-like symptoms which sometimes occur are easily managed.

DVIDA has a ready supply of virtually any vaccine you may need. Appointments are available within 24 to 48 hours.

Why not just go to your pharmacy?

Vaccination is not just for kids. There are several vaccines that are indicated for adults and several prior inoculations that need to be updated        periodically. Some vaccines that are indicated in adults are influenza vaccine, Pneumonia vaccine, Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis vaccine,              Shingles vaccine and vaccines that prevent certain types of hepatitis.  Adult vaccination is a lot more complex than you may have been led to believe! Before you go to your local pharmacy for a vaccine, you should ask the following questions:

  • There are several different flu shots available: which is best for me?

  • With my medical history and problems, is the vaccine I’m getting a live virus and is it safe for me?

  • Can the vaccine present problems for family members?

  • Will I need “booster shots” in the future?

  • What are the side effects of the vaccine and what do I do or whom do I call should they occur?

  • Does the vaccine give me complete protection or need I still be cautious about acquiring a particular disease?

  • Am I the right age for this vaccine?

DVIDA has virtually every vaccine that is recommended for adults in stock. Our Board Certified Infectious Disease Specialists will personally review your medical history, answer your questions, assess the risks and benefits that apply to you and make recommendations for vaccination accordingly. Our physicians are available on a 24 hour basis should you develop a problem.
